Hello,
A little background info first : I have never before owned a dog, but am very comfortable with any dog, any age, any size. A lot of my friends have had dogs and I have been around them a lot. The only reason I haven't ever got one was not having enough time for it. I am in a position to spend a lot of time with a dog now, give it regular walks, watch him grow from a pup to an adult etc.
My wife and I are both in our late 20s, live in a 2-bed apartment (might be a couple of years at least before moving into a house). We both love dogs and are willing to put in time, energy, love for a dog. Giving 30 minute walks every day, taking him out to parks once a week, caring for him etc are not at all a concern.
The main things we looked for in a dog were: 1. Easy to train (since it's our first pet) 2. Low shedding and allergy problems 3. Not too big a dog (we live in an apartment complex with pet size restrictions)
My questions : 1. Do you think with my background a wheaten terrier is a right choice for a first pet? My wife and I took a lot of the 'find a right breed' kind of tests, and found this breed to be right for us on all results. 2. Any particular reasons why any of you might really recommend this breed over others? 3. Any particular reasons why any of you might not think this is a good idea?
Please do help me out here. Your answers & opinions could make a big difference in giving us a great pet, and a dog a great home.
Thank you,
filya
