I had always said I would never get a dog from a pet store. (Famous last words)
We were trying to locate breeders and were having no luck when we ran into a couple with a 1 year old wheaten. (We did our research on breeds and definitely wanted a wheaten.) They told us they had gotten her from a pet store near us that was reputable. (Are any of them?) Well, to make a long story short, we went there to "look" (the most dangerous word in my wife's vocabulary) and my wife and daughter fell in love with the 4 month old pup there. I should have been suspicious when the pup was 4 months old and then they said it was half off!!!! I think he was bought and brought back because he was a "hand full" the first few months. I won't even go into the skin problems he has had since day one. (See my other post on that.)
If I hadn't had experience with raising dogs I would have been at my wits end. My wife was besides herself after 3 days of having him home. We should have named him Cujo he was such a little terror!
After training and some serious consistency on our part we now have a fantastic pet. A bit head strong at times still but not out of control crazy like he was in the beginning. We always joke that we saved him from the dog pound. In all seriousness if another owner wasn't willing to work with him as we did he would have wound up there.
So after all this would I get another wheaten? Definitely. However, I will never get a dog from a pet store again!!!!
